      "verbatimText": "Timely Warning\n\n\n\nThe Brown University Department of Public Safety provides this notice in compliance with the Timely Notice provision of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.\n\n\n\nIncident\n\n\n\nOn Thursday, November 17, 2022, at approximately 8:45 AM, the Brown University Department of Public Safety responded to the intersection of Thayer and Cushing Street to meet a Brown University community member who reported that she was the victim of an assault. The community member stated that a green SUV drove by her, and the front passenger rolled the window down and fired an unknown projectile at her. The community member was not hit. The suspect’s vehicle was last seen traveling east on Cushing Street. A short time afterward, the Providence Police Department responded to the corner of Hope and Angell Street, where an unaffiliated community member reported a similar incident that occurred within the same time frame. The community member was not hit or injured. The suspect’s vehicle, a gray SUV, was last seen traveling south on Hope Street.\n\nThese incidents appear to be a continuation of the projectile incidents fueled by a social media challenge affecting communities and campuses across the country. The incidents we’ve seen locally appear random — we have no information to suggest any particular group of people is targeted. The trend in these attacks indicates that those who commit these acts do so from their cars, often traveling across several communities. The projectiles are generally small gel balls that are non-toxic and designed for play.\n\nThe Providence Police Department has been notified of this incident. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121 or the Brown University Department of Public Safety at 401-863-3322.\n\nResources\n\n\n\nThe Brown University campus community is always encouraged to take the following steps to keep yourself and others safe:\n\n\n\n• Be aware of your surroundings\n\n• Please travel on well-lit streets and throughways\n\n• Report suspicious behavior, even when you are not directly threatened\n\n• If you feel unsafe in any situation, trust your instincts and call Brown DPS at 401-863-3322 or the Providence Police at 401-272-3121\n\n\n\nPlease review the Brown DPS web page for additional safety awareness information and resources.\n\n\n\nLocation\n\nThayer and Cushing Street",
