"verbatimText": "Timely Warning\n\nThe Brown University Department of Public Safety provides this notice in compliance with the Timely Notice provision of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.\n\nIncident\n\nOn Sunday, October 23, 2022, at approximately 12:20 am, the Brown University Department of Public Safety responded to an assault of a Brown University student. The student was walking near the intersection of Power and Benefit Streets when a small white vehicle drove by. The occupant(s) of the vehicle fired a projectile from the front passenger’s side that grazed the student's head. The vehicle was last seen heading west on Power Street towards South Main Street. The student was not injured.  \n\n \n\nThis incident appears to be a continuation of the projectile incidents that are being fueled by a social media challenge affecting communities and campuses across the country. The incidents we’ve seen locally appear to be random — we have no information to suggest any particular group of people is targeted. The trend in these attacks suggests that those who commit these acts do so from their cars, often traveling across several communities. The projectiles are generally small gel balls that are non-toxic and designed for play.\n\n \n\nThis matter is under investigation by the Providence Police Department. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121 or the Brown University Department of Public Safety at 401-863-3322.\n\n \n\nResources\n\nThe Brown University campus community is always encouraged to take the following steps to keep yourself and others safe:\n\n• Be aware of your surroundings\n\n• Please travel on well-lit streets and throughways\n\n• Report suspicious behavior, even when you are not directly threatened\n\n• If you feel unsafe in any situation, trust your instincts and call Brown DPS at 401-863-3322 or the Providence Police at 401-272-3121\n\nPlease review the Brown DPS web page for additional safety awareness information and resources.\n\nLocation\n\n \n\nPower and Benefit Street",
