"verbatimText": "SENT ON BEHALF OF CHIEF HUGH CLEMENTS:\n\n\n\nDear Community Members,\n\nEarly today, Brown’s Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management (DPSEM) was notified by local law enforcement agencies of numerous “swatting” calls in which other organizations are being told of a potential threat. This afternoon, multiple Brown community members affiliated with a student organization reported receiving online threats through a shared social media account. DPSEM assessed the reported threats with law enforcement partners and quickly determined that the threat was unfounded. We are aware of no credible threat to our campus.\n\nOut of an abundance of caution, DPSEM continues to coordinate closely with the Providence Police Department. We have increased visibility and patrols in key areas, and we continue to monitor and investigate any and all reports made to the department.\n\nWe recognize that even unfounded threats can be unsettling. Our goal in sharing this information is to help address uncertainty in the community, as we continue to receive questions and see references to reports of a threat to campus. You may continue normal campus activities, and in any case that you see something that concerns you, trust your instincts and report it.\n\n• If there is an immediate emergency, call the Brown University Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management at 401-863-4111.\n• For non-emergencies, 401-863-3322.\n• If you received a threatening message online, do not engage. Save screenshots and report it to DPSEM immediately so it can be shared with investigators.\nWe will continue to work with law enforcement and will share additional updates, should that become necessary. Thank you for your attention and for helping us keep our community safe.",
