Two (2) unknown individuals exited the vehicle and assaulted the complainant, striking them on\ntheir face and body. The unknown individuals removed two (2) cell phones from the complainant,\nsmashing one and stealing the other. They also attempted to take the complainant's e-bike but were\nunable to do so. The individuals returned to the minivan and fled northbound on Amsterdam Avenue. A\npasserby stopped and called 911 for the complainant. The NYPD responded and took a report.\nThe NYPD reported the incident to Columbia University Public Safety on Monday, June 23, 2025.\nIf you have any additional information about this incident, please contact us at 212 854-2797.\nThe two (2) individuals are male-presenting and have dark complexions. No other information is known\nat this time.\nSafety Tips\nBe aware of your surroundings, especially when alone at night.\nAvoid walking or biking alone at night. When there are less people around, you are in more danger\nof being targeted.\nStay alert and tuned in to your environment. Remember that cell phones, earbuds, and other\nelectronic devices divert your attention from your surroundings and block out environmental\nsound, which increases your vulnerability.\nTrust your instincts. If you feel that you may be in danger, seek out others, a store, or an open CU\nbuilding that has Public Safety Officers posted. Remember to look for the Red Lion, the logo for\nthe CU Public Safety Safe Haven program, which has screened more than 130 businesses near\nthe Morningside, Manhattanville, and Medical Center Campuses.\n\nDisclaimer: Clery Crime Alerts (Timely Warning Notifications) are distributed pursuant to the Jeanne\nClery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statics Act. Columbia University is\nrequired to alert the campus community when certain crimes occur in our Clery Act defined campuses\nthat represent a serious or continuous threat to the community.\nTo see this and other Clery Crime Alerts, please visit our Public Safety website. For more information\nabout Columbia University’s Clery Act compliance efforts, please contact the Department’s Clery Act\nCompliance Director, Roberto A. Pineda Sanchez at rp3240@columbia.edu",
