      "verbatimText": "Clery Crime Alert\nStalking\nThe Department of Public Safety has been informed of reported stalking occurring since September 2024 at both on and off campus locations. The\nincident was reported to Columbia University’s Department of Public Safety on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. The complainant did not wish to\nfile a police report; however, the Department of Public Safety has made the police aware of this incident.\nThe complainant, a Columbia University student, reported that they were approached by a non-affiliate at various locations, including the Starbucks\nat 2929 Broadway and at the Carman gate, on West 114th Street and Broadway. The subject depicted in the image below attempted to interact with\nthe complainant. The Department is also aware that the subject has approached other community members. While the reported interactions have not\nbeen violent in nature, we want to ensure our community is aware and are encouraged to report any unwanted interactions to the Department of\nPublic Safety by calling 212-854-2797.\nThe subject is described as being, 5’8” – 6’ tall, with a medium build, a dark complexion, having mid to long curly black hair, and is usually wearing\ndark clothing and a baseball cap. They are known to frequent the Starbucks at 2929 Broadway.\nSafety Tips\nTrust your gut. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable or a conversation weirds you out, report it immediately.\nNot everyone on the street is a dangerous person, but the old adage of \"stranger danger\" always applies. Do not give out any\nidentifying information to a stranger.\nIf someone ignores your wishes to be left alone, or you are being followed,  enter an open business or building and let an\nemployee know that something is wrong. Stay inside until help arrives. If you are nearby campus, look for the Red Lion logo on\na door or window. The Safe Haven program, organized by the Department of Public Safety, has screened more than 130\nbusinesses near the Morningside, Manhattanville and Medical Center campuses.
