In compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, this \"Timely Warning\" is being sent to inform the campus community about an incident that may pose a serious or continuing threat which allows community members to take precautions for personal safety.\n\nTYPE OF CRIME: Arson\n\nDATE OF INCIDENT: October 5, 2025\nTIME OF INCIDENT: 7:07 PM\n\nLOCATION: Campus Bookstore\n\nSYNOPSIS: On Sunday, October 5, 2025, at approximately 7:19 PM, the El Camino College Police Department received a report of a subject starting a fire on the loading dock area of the bookstore building. LA County Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. At approximately 8:40 PM Campus Police received a FIRE alarm from the Chemistry building. Campus security camera footage confirmed that the same subject that set the fire at the bookstore loading dock also set a fire at the Chemistry building. Los Angeles County Fire responded to the Chemistry building and extinguished the fire. Currently, there are no active fires on campus, however, the suspect is not in custody at this time.\n\nSUSPECT DESCRIPTION: Suspect was a male with a medium build and medium complexion wearing a dark baseball cap, a blue delivery vest with reflective tape, light colored oversize T-Shirt, black oversize shorts and black shoes.\n\nEl Camino College Police Department Recommendations For Your Safety:\n\n- Call 9-1-1 to report an active fire. If you're inside a building, quickly evacuate. Do not use elevators.\n- Report extinguished fires, no matter how small, to Campus Police at 310-660-3100.\n- Immediately report suspicious activity to Campus Police, including the use of open flame or someone talking about/planning an arson.\n- If you see something, say something. By working together, we all contribute to the safety of our campus.\n- In an emergency, contact Campus Police by calling 911 from a landline phone, 310-660-3100 from a cell phone, or use a campus \"Code Blue\" emergency phone.\n- Always be aware of your surroundings. Remember the use of cell phones may significantly distract you.\n- Use ECC Courtesy Shuttle operated by ECC Police; on-call 24 hours. Use one of the police phones located throughout campus or call 310-660-3100.\n- Night students and faculty are encouraged to park in the same general area as other faculty or students with night classes in their building. This provides the opportunity for a group of students and faculty to walk together to their cars after dark.\n- Immediately report any suspicious activity to Campus Police.\n- Be alert!
