In compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, this “Timely Warning” is being sent to inform the campus community about an incident that may pose a serious or continuing threat which allows community members to take precautions for personal safety. The Clery Act defines electric bicycles as motor vehicles. TYPE OF CRIME: Motor Vehicle Theft (Electric Bicycle) DATES OF INCIDENT: March 5, 2026 and March 9, 2026 TIMES OF INCIDENT: Between 6:00PM and 10:00PM LOCATION: Bike Racks Near the Natural Sciences Building SYNOPSIS: Within the past week, the El Camino College Police Department (ECCPD) has received reports of two motor vehicle thefts (electric bicycles) at the Natural Sciences bike rack. ECCPD encourages all campus community members to use a good quality anti-theft locking device, U-Lock or chain to secure bikes on campus. When locking your bike, ensure that the bike frame AND at least one wheel are locked to the bike rack. Please review bike security recommendations listed below. If your bicycle has been stolen, please report it to ECCPD as soon as possible to assist in our investigation efforts. El Camino College Police Department Recommendations For Your Safety: • Secure your bike and belongings: This may include removing expensive accessories from access or view, including bike seats, bags, bottles, and lights. • Securely lock your bike to a rack with a good quality U-lock. To do this, hook the lock through the frame and at least one of the wheels. • Keep your bike's serial number in a safe place so that if your bike is stolen, there is a way for Police to identify the bike as yours when it is found. • If you see something, say something. By working together, we all contribute to the safety of our campus. • Park in well-lit, heavily populated areas on campus. • In an emergency, contact Campus Police by calling 911 from a landline phone, 310-660-3100 from a cell phone, or use a campus “Code Blue” emergency phone. • Use ECC Courtesy Shuttle operated by ECC Police; on-call 24 hours. Use one of the police phones located throughout campus or call 310-660-3100. • Night students and faculty are encouraged to park in the same general area as other faculty or students with night classes in their building. This provides the opportunity for a group of students and faculty to walk together to their cars after dark. • Immediately report any suspicious activity to Campus Police. • Be alert! Be prepared!
