The caller states that they are from Human\nResources then ask the user for personal and confidential information in order to gain access\nto their FIU account.\nThis is a type of phishing attack known as phone number spoofing. A caller who deliberately\nfalsifies the information being shown on your caller ID to disguise their identity and try to gain\npersonal and confidential information. It is likely that these attacks will increase over the next\ncouple of months during tax season thus it is important that you stay vigilant and not fall victim\nto these phishing attacks.\nUnfortunately, there is not an immediate way of knowing if the incoming call is a legitimate\nphone number. However, we highly encourage you to be extremely careful with providing any\nconfidential or personal identifying information over the phone, via text or email. If you\nreceive a call requesting personal or confidential information, including codes, password or\ntwo-factor verification, kindly hang up and contact the company/organization directly to verify\nthe authenticity of the request.\nFIU will never initiate a call, text message, or email where you are asked to share your\nconfidential or personal information.\nAs a reminder, if you did not initiate a password reset or a two-factor verification, don’t accept\nit. Unless you are actively authenticating into an FIU system you will not be sent an FIU IT code,\nnor will you be prompted for a two-factor verification (DUO push, call or text).\n\n\nIf you think you have been the victim of a phishing scam at work, notify your supervisor and\ncontact the FIU Security Office at security@fiu.edu. If your personal information was provided,\nyou should change your password immediately and file a complaint with the Federal\nCommunications Commission at https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us.\n\n\nIn compliance with federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus\nCrime Statistics Act of 1998, we are issuing this “Timely Warning Notice” to report an\nincident that may pose a serious or\ncontinuing threat to the campus community.",
