      "verbatimText": "Clery Crime Alert Statutory Rape, LSC-Kingwood On Friday, May 24, 2019, LSC Police was advised of an alleged statutory rape that occurred on February 28, 2019. A 15-year old early-college student arranged via social media a sexual encounter on campus with a 22-year old LSC student. While it appears at this stage that the encounter was factually consensual, the law is clear that a 15- year-old minor could not have given effective legal consent under Texas law. This is an ongoing investigation, but federal law requires us to give the community notice of the allegation itself. Crime Prevention Tip: The age of consent under Texas law is 17. Anyone 16 or under cannot consent to sexual conduct with an adult. For more information on the state's sexual offense statute visit: https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/PE/htm/PE.22.htm#22.011.
