The individual matched the description of a person connected to a Harvard University Police alert involving an assault in a residence hall earlier that evening. We have been asked to share an updated photo of the suspect and encourage you to call MIT Police immediately at 617-253-1212 if you see this individual or any suspicious activity.\n\nAt approximately 7:25 PM, the MIT Police responded to NW86, Sidney Pacific, an MIT residence hall located at 70 Pacific Street in Cambridge. The call concerned an unknown male who entered the residence hall by following another individual into the building without authorization and acting suspiciously. The reporting party stated that an unknown male had followed her into a side entrance to the building at approximately 5:45 PM.\n\n MIT Police conducted a thorough search of the building and surrounding areas. According to MIT camera footage, the unknown male departed from NW86 at approximately 5:59.\n\n The individual who entered NW86 matched the description of a person who was the subject of a Harvard University Police Department alert earlier this evening. The subject of the Harvard University alert reportedly entered a residence hall and assaulted a resident.\n\n The MIT Police Department is actively investigating this incident and is asking for any information bystanders or community members may have.\n\nThe suspect is described as a white male, 5'9\", with a thin build. He wore a white t-shirt and dark colored shorts.\n\nPlease report any sightings of this individual to the MIT Police.\n\nWhile victims of crimes are never to blame for criminal activity, there are some precautions that can be taken. To protect yourself and your belongings from theft and/or facilitate the recovery of your stolen property, MIT Police encourage you to follow these tips:\n\n • Report all tailgaters.\n\n • Report person(s) acting in a suspicious, alarming or unsafe manner.\n\n • Immediately notify the MIT Police at 617-253-1212 or 100 from any campus phone if you believe a crime is occurring, has occurred, or is about to occur.\n\n • Always lock your residential and office doors and windows. Assure that the locks are in good working order.\n\n • Lock your residential or office door if you are leaving (even if only for a minute or two).\n\n • When entering or exiting an office, make sure the door closes tightly behind you.\n\n The MIT Police want to remind the MIT community that we are located in an urban setting and share many of the crime and safety issues that exist in any city.\n\n The MIT Police are investigating this crime and request the assistance from the MIT community.
