The initial correspondence sent reporting shots fired on campus was not confirmed and was sent out of an abundance of caution. However, authorities did respond to an incident where they discovered an unresponsive person in a campus parking lot. The details of the incident are below, per the City of Norfolk Police Department:\n\n“Norfolk Police responded to the 2600 block of Corprew Avenue around midnight on April 30 to assist Norfolk State University Police. NSU Officers had located a vehicle with an unresponsive person inside. When First Responders arrived, the person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The person is not an NSU student. This matter is being investigated as an undetermined death. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official manner and cause of death. At this time, there are no signs of foul play.”\n\nThe university will provide more details as they become available. There is and was no active threat to campus. The NSU Counseling Center offers counseling and support services for students, faculty, and staff who have experienced trauma or distress in a safe and confidential environment. If immediate support is needed, please call (757) 823-8173, and after-hours at 757-823-8102 to speak with an on-call counselor.
