"verbatimText": "College Police Announce Increased Patrols as a Result of City Crime Activity During Holiday Break\nJanuary 8, 2008\n\nPenn College Police have doubled patrols both on and off campus as a result of recent crime activity in the city. None of the incidents occurred on campus.\n\nOff-Campus Apartment Burglaries\n\nSince Dec. 13, at least 14 apartment burglaries in the immediate area of the College (most affecting off-campus student housing) were reported to Williamsport or Penn College Police. All of the apartments were empty while students were away on holiday break between semesters. Landlords have contacted students that live in the apartments where the burglaries were reported. It appears that mostly small, low-value items and cash were taken.\n\nSTUDENTS: If you return to campus and find that your apartment was broken into and it has not been reported to police, please contact the Penn College Police immediately at (570) 321-5555.\n\nShootings in the City\n\nOn Friday, January 4, four shootings occurred in the city, resulting in one death and several injuries. Williamsport Bureau of Police are continuing to investigate these shootings, which occurred in four different locations, two in the east end of the city and two several blocks north of the campus.\n\nAnother shooting, which resulted in no injuries, happened around 2 p.m. Monday, January 7, at the intersection of Memorial Avenue and Walnut Street (several blocks north east of campus). A suspect in this shooting was immediately taken into custody and remains in jail.\n\nBe Alert and Report Suspicious or Dangerous Situations\n\nPenn College Police issue Crime Alerts so that students, faculty, and staff can be alerted to potentially dangerous situations on and around campus and take appropriate precautions. The warnings are issued when the situation is considered to represent a serious or continuing threat to students and employees.\n\nAll students, faculty and staff should be alert for suspicious persons and potentially dangerous situations on and off campus. Immediately report all crimes or suspicious activity to Penn College Police, who will coordinate communications with the Williamsport Bureau of Police. Penn College Police continue to work with local law enforcement and city officials to improve safety in the community that surrounds our campus.\n\nIf you have information on the burglaries, shootings, or other crimes, please immediately contact Penn College Police (24 hours a day) at (570) 321-5555 or submit information online via the Silent Witness Web site at www.pct.edu/campus-life/campus-safety/silent-witness to remain anonymous.",
