"verbatimText": "The Department of Public Safety has a suspect in custody following an assault incident that occurred on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at approximately 12:46 p.m. in the University Avenue Garage.\n\nA Syracuse University-affiliated individual was returning to their vehicle and found the suspect inside. During the struggle, the victim sustained a non-life-threatening laceration to their hand. DPS officers responded immediately to the scene and apprehended the suspect within minutes. The suspect is not affiliated with Syracuse University.\n\nThere is no continuing threat to the Syracuse University community. The investigation is ongoing.\n\nWith the uptick in vehicle larcenies and break-ins, we want to remind all of our campus community to always lock your vehicle doors, remove your keys, and ensure no valuables are left in plain sight. Taking these simple precautions can help prevent similar incidents.\n\nIf you were in the vicinity at the time and witnessed the incident, please contact the Syracuse Police Department at 315.442.5222 or the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety at 315.443.2224. If you would like to anonymously report NON-EMERGENCY information for DPS, you can use the Silent Witness tool or the Orange Safe app.\n\nIf you or someone you know has been affected by an incident on or near campus, please know that there are resources available to you. In addition, for your safety, please review these suggested safety strategies.\n\nThis public safety information is issued for your safety in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act.",
