      "verbatimText": "For the protection and safety of SU students the Department of Public Safety releases the following information: Attempted Robbery (Date Issued: 11/9/16)\n\nOn Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at about 5:45 PM, the SPD & DPS responded to 727 South Crouse Avenue (Komachi Restaurant and store) in response to an attempted robbery complaint. A student reported that the suspect entered the location and produced a noted that read \"I am now doing a robbery, give me your money.\"  The suspect displayed a folding pocket knife.  The suspect was not given any money and fled the scene in a northerly direction towards CVS drugstore.  There were no injuries reported.\n\nThe DPS asks for your help in identifying a suspect if you were in the vicinity at the time of the incident. For this purpose, the following is the description of the suspect:  The suspect is described being a male approximately 5'6-6' wearing a black windbreaker and black hoodie, with a black pants.\n\nIf anyone has any information regarding these incidents or has been a victim of such incident, please contact the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety at (315) 443-2224.\n\nIf you would like to anonymously report NON-EMERGENCY information for DPS, you can use the Silent Witness tool, available at http://publicsafety.syr.edu/html/silent_witness.html\n\nFOR YOUR SAFETY, PLEASE REMEMBER:\n\n• After dark, take advantage of the free safety escort services available through the Department of Public Safety. Both walking and shuttle services are available to students, staff, and faculty at SU or SUNY-ESF. Call 443-SAFE (7233) for more information about these services.\n\n• Secure unattended property\n\n• Take advantage of the CENTRO and Caz Limo bus services. Taxi services are also available.\n\n• Be aware of your surroundings: look and listen.\n\n• Travel in well-lit and populated areas.\n\n• Don't approach strangers or let them get close to you.\n\n• If you think someone is following you, switch directions or cross the street. Go toward an open business or lighted house.\n\n• Have your house or car keys in hand before you reach your door.\n\n• If someone tries to rob you, don't resist. Give up your property, not your life.\n\n• If you are in a safe place to do so, attempt to get a description of the suspect(s) and any associated vehicles or license plate numbers.\n\n• Lock your car doors and windows.\n\n• Download and use the LiveSafe app to report any suspicious activity.\n\nIMMEDIATELY report emergencies or suspicious activities, persons and vehicles.\n\nFor Public Safety dial 443-2224 or #78 (from a cell phone); if you are in a situation where you cannot safely make a phone call, send a text message to 711@syr.edu; for Syracuse Police dial 911.\n\nYour quick reporting may help prevent others from becoming victims.",
