The investigation determined that an unknown individual entered the off-campus residence through an unlocked rear door and stole several electronic items, along with a pick-up truck. The burglary is believed to have occurred between midnight and 10:00 a.m.\n\nAs a reminder, students, faculty and staff should remain alert and take proactive measures to protect their personal safety while on, off and near campus. By remaining vigilant and looking out for one another, we can help ensure a safe and secure environment for our entire community.\n\nPlease keep the following safety measures in mind:\n\nAs always, make sure your door is locked when you leave - even it's just for a few minutes. But also make sure the door is locked when you're inside your apartment, especially if you'll be upstairs or sleeping. Many times, a thief will enter an unlocked residence to find that they have free reign on the bottom floor of the house, because all of its residents are on the second floor.\n\nBe sure all outdoor lighting features on your apartment are working. If they malfunction, notify your landlord and/or FixIT right away.\n\nPlace valuable items out of sight and preferably in locked areas. A laptop, a PS5, or an iPhone are easy targets for potential thieves.\n\nDo not leave vehicle keys in common areas of the residence where they can be taken if someone gains entry.\n\nReport all suspicious people or activities to DPS at 315.443.2224 or SPD at 911.\n\nIn addition, if you work on campus, we recommend the following safety strategies:\n\n​​​​​​​Control access to your area by accounting for keys and ensuring someone is at the entrance of your office space (receptionist, administrative staff) at all times.\n\nAlways secure windows and doors when the office is closed for business.\n\nDuring business hours, secure your valuables in a drawer, closet or locker.
