      "verbatimText": "Subject: Safety Notice – Armed Robbery – Uptown Campus – Off-Campus Offense: Armed Robbery Date: January 27, 2023\n\nContent Warning: This notification includes information related to an armed robbery in our area.\n\nToday, January 27, 2023, at approximately 1:30 am, the Tulane University Police Department learned that a Tulane student had been the victim of an armed robbery. The victim reported they were walking in the 1400 block of Lowerline when an unknown subject approached on foot brandishing a firearm and demanded property. The victim handed over their property at which time the subject struck the victim in the head with the firearm and fled on foot.\n\nThe victim described the subject as an unknown male wearing dark clothing.\n\nTUPD along with NOPD responded to the area and were not able to locate the suspect. Anyone with information related to this criminal act is urged to call the Tulane University Police Department at 504-865-5381 or the New Orleans Police Department at 911.\n\nPlease Remember These Safety Tips\n\n• Be Alert: Be aware of your surroundings and others around you. Resist the temptation to become distracted by your phone or by listening to headphones. • Plan Ahead: Plan your route. Tell someone where you are going and when you’ll return. Check in when you reach your destination. Everbridge offers built in resources to help with this. • Trust your instincts: Be alert to your surroundings. If you feel uncomfortable, leave or seek help. Avoid unnecessary contact with strangers. Do not carry large sums of money and do not use ATMs at night or with others nearby. • Hide Valuables: Put away your phone, headphones and other valuables; conceal expensive accessories such as bags, watches or jewelry. Don’t overburden yourself with bags or groceries. • Don’t Fight to Keep Items: If someone tries to rob you, prioritize your safety. Try to observe the offender’s characteristics, but don’t stare. When it is safe, call 911. • If You Witness a Crime: Keep yourself out of harm’s way. If you are able, help others who may have been injured. Call for help as soon as possible and tell the dispatcher your location, what happened, if anyone is injured, and any information you may have about a suspect.
