      "verbatimText": "Safety Notice: Attempted Fraud via Email\n\nFrom Tulane University Police Department Date Sat 8/23/2025 5:26 PM\n\nINCIDENT: A�empted Fraud via Email\n\nDate & Time: August 23, 2025 at 11:50 a.m. and 12:27 p.m.\n\nLoca�on: Online Email\n\nImportant Security No�ce: Beware of suspicious emails involving fake checks. TUPD would like to alert the community about a recent scam targe�ng students through suspicious emails leading to the distribu�on of fake checks. Please note that the fraudulent checks most recently used by the scammers, were checks that appeared to be issued by Tulane University. However, these checks were counterfeit and not issued by anyone affiliated with Tulane University. In these emails, scammers may: • Ask you to deposit a check into your personal banking account • Promise quick money and/or job opportuni�es • Request that you purchase gi� cards • Request that you send back part of the money a�er deposi�ng the check.\n\nPlease note: these checks are fake and deposi�ng them may cause your bank account to be flagged, closed, or result in financial liability.\n\nSuspect's Descrip�on: Two of these emails were sent from the user: BOhaeri@tulane.edu. The user alleged that their name was Blossom Ohaeri.\n\nINVESTIGATION ONGOING: If you have any informa�on about these crimes, call TUPD at 504-865-5381 or NOPD at 504-821-2222.\n\nPlease Remember These Safety Tips: • Do not respond to unexpected emails offering money or asking you to deposit checks. • NEVER share personal or banking informa�on with unknown senders. • Report suspicious messages immediately to security@tulane.edu.\n\n• Always verify work and financial opportuni�es through the Student Employment division of Tulane's Office of Human Resources.
