      "verbatimText": "Crime Alert: Burglary\nMonday, August 21, 2023\nThis message includes information about a crime that was recently reported on or near the University of Iowa campus. The purpose of this email is to provide you with the information you need to stay safe and take any appropriate precautions.\nIn the interest of campus safety, we want everyone to be aware the University of Iowa Police Department received a report of a potential burglary in an east side residence hall. A resident reported they left their backpack in a friend's room for a period of time on the evening of Aug. 19 into the early afternoon hours on Aug. 20. Upon returning to the room on Aug. 20, the resident found the door unlocked and their wallet was missing. There were no signs of forced entry.\nThis incident is currently under investigation.\nUI Police strongly encourage all residence hall occupants and those in the campus community to lock their doors at all times, even if they are only leaving their rooms for a short time. Residents are also encouraged to report suspicious activity immediately by calling 9-1-1. Security of rooms in residence halls is a joint effort between residents, roommates, staff, and UI Police. Additional safety tips can be found at safety.uiowa.edu/safety-tips.\nIf you have any additional information about this incident, please contact UI Police at (319) 335-5022, or submit a crime tip via text message by using the Rave Guardian app.\nThe only person responsible for a crime is the perpetrator. Crime alerts are sent to UI students and employees in accordance with federal law requiring universities to disclose information about crime to help prevent similar crimes and to identify offenders.\nThis is not an emergency notification. These timely warnings are prompted by crimes that have already occurred, but could represent a serious or ongoing threat to students and employees. This message alone is not necessarily an indication that crime rates on campus have increased or that a pattern of crime has emerged.
