      "verbatimText": "Crime Alert: Burglary\nMonday, September 18, 2023\nThis message includes information about a crime that was recently reported on or near the University of Iowa campus. The purpose of this email is to provide you with the information you need to stay safe and take any appropriate precautions.\nIn the interest of campus safety, we want everyone to be aware of two separate incidents reported to the University of Iowa Police Department.\nBurglary\nUniversity of Iowa Police received a report of a potential burglary that occurred sometime between the afternoon hours on Friday, Sept. 8 and the afternoon hours on Monday, Sept. 11 in an academic building on the east side of campus. The reporting party shared that lighting equipment was taken from the building. There were no signs of forced entry, and this incident remains under investigation.\nBurglary\nUniversity of Iowa Police received a report of a potential burglary that occurred in a west side residence hall. The reporting party shared that a variety of food, clothing hangers, and other items have gone missing over the last three weeks (between Aug. 26, 2023, and Sept. 16, 2023). There were no signs of forced entry, and this incident remains under investigation.\n--\nUI Police strongly encourage all residence hall occupants and those in the campus community to lock their doors at all times, even if they are only leaving their rooms for a short time. Residents are also encouraged to report suspicious activity immediately by calling 911. Security of rooms in residence halls is a joint effort between residents, roommates, staff, and UI Police. Additional safety tips can be found at safety.uiowa.edu/safety-tips.\nIf you have any additional information about either of these incidents, please contact UI Police at (319) 335-5022, or submit a crime tip via text message by using the Rave Guardian app.\nThe only person responsible for a crime is the perpetrator. Crime alerts are sent to UI students and employees in accordance with federal law requiring universities to disclose information about crime to help prevent similar crimes and to identify offenders.\nThis is not an emergency notification. These timely warnings are prompted by crimes that have already occurred, but could represent a serious or ongoing threat to students and employees. This message alone is not necessarily an indication that crime rates on campus have increased or that a pattern of crime has emerged.
