      "verbatimText": "Crime Alert: Motor Vehicle Theft\nSaturday, June 3, 2023\nThis message includes information about a crime that was recently reported on or near the University of Iowa campus. The purpose of this email is to provide you with the information you need to stay safe and take any appropriate precautions.\nIn the interest of campus safety, we want everyone to be aware of a motor vehicle theft near campus.\nUI officials received a report on Friday, June 3rd, 2023 that a pickup truck was stolen from the parking lot of the Public Policy Research Building on the 600 block of East Jefferson St. sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.\nThis incident remains under investigation and police are encouraging those with a car on campus to be vigilant and take extra precautions, including:\n- Close and lock all windows and doors when you park.\n- Bring your key with you. Never leave your keys in your car, on your car, or in the ignition.\n- Park in a well-lit area whenever possible.\n- Don't leave valuables in your vehicle. If you must, make sure they are not in sight, or lock them in your trunk.\n- Consider installing an audible alarm system if your car does not have one.\n- Consider installing a steering wheel lock, especially if your vehicle is particularly vulnerable to theft.\n- If your car is stolen contact police immediately by dialing 9-1-1 to make a theft report.If you have any additional information about this incident, please contact UI Police at (319) 335-5022, or submit a crime tip via text message by using the Rave Guardian App.\nThe only person responsible for a crime is the perpetrator. Crime alerts are sent to UI students and employees in accordance with federal law requiring universities to disclose information about crime to help prevent similar crimes and to identify offenders.\nThese notices are prompted by crimes that have already occurred, but could represent a serious or ongoing threat to students and employees. This message alone is not necessarily an indication that crime rates on campus have increased or that a pattern of crime has emerged.
