The purpose of this email is to provide you with the information you need to stay safe and take any appropriate precautions.\n\nIn the interest of campus safety, we want everyone to be aware that University of Iowa Police received a report of sexual assault that occurred during the early morning hours on Feb. 8, 2026 in a west side residence hall. The assault was reported to be perpetrated by an acquaintance.\n\nThis incident remains under investigation. If you have any information, please contact the University of Iowa Police Department at 319-335-5022, or text Campus Safety using the Rave Guardian App.\n\nBystander Intervention\nIf you feel uneasy about a situation, trust your instincts, and attempt to interrupt the chain of events. Here are some strategies:\nCreate a distraction and involve others.\nMake a commitment to ensure everyone has a safe way home.\nRemember being an active bystander does not require you put yourself at risk.\n\nThe only person responsible for a crime is the perpetrator. Crime alerts are sent to UI students and employees in accordance with federal law requiring universities to disclose information about crime to help prevent similar crimes and to identify offenders. This is not an emergency notification. These timely warnings are prompted by crimes that have already occurred, but could represent a serious or ongoing threat to students and employees. This message alone is not necessarily an indication that crime rates on campus have increased or that a pattern of crime has emerged. To learn more about crime in your area and/or on campus, we encourage you to read the Campus Safety and Security Report and review previous crime alerts.\n\nIf you witness something that is a threat to public safety or an individual, you are strongly encouraged to report it to UI Police as soon as possible.
