      "verbatimText": "Increase in car thefts\n\nIncrease in car thefts\n\nOver the past several days, the Department of Public Safety has seen an increase in instances of vandalism and thefts of items from vehicles, as well as actual thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles. DPS is providing extra attention to the University’s indoor and outdoor parking areas on all campuses to help prevent these incidents from becoming a larger concern.\n\nDPS Interim Chief Gerald Pickering reminds University community members that the following actions can help reduce the likelihood of being victimized:\n\nDPS appreciates the University community's help with these prevention efforts and continues to work with area law enforcement agencies in an attempt to identify suspects who are committing these crimes.",
