      "verbatimText": "UPDATE at 7:15 p.m. UW is continuing to closely monitor weather conditions due to a National Weather Service excessive heat warning for today, tomorrow and Wednesday.\n\nThe University of Washington's Weather Status Assessment Group recommends that you:\n\n- Learn to recognize the signs of heat illness.\n\n- Limit outdoor activities. If possible, move all outdoor activities indoors or reschedule them to another day.\n\n- Drink lots of fluids (avoid caffeine, alcohol and high-sugar drinks).\n\nSee additional extreme heat tips and information from UW Emergency Management.\n\nUW employees\nEmployees working outdoors must follow UW Environmental Health & Safety requirements. For employees working indoors, see EH&S information about excessive indoor heat on its indoor air quality webpage.\n\nIf you have questions about HR practices during outdoor heat exposure, please contact your unit's Human Resources Consultant. If you have questions about or need assistance with business continuity planning, please contact UW Emergency Management at disaster@uw.edu.\n\nUPDATE at 5:30 p.m. Power has been restored to the 12 UW Seattle buildings that lost power earlier today. Systems in those buildings, including cooling systems, will be reset by Facilities staff Tuesday morning.\n\nUPDATE at 5:10 p.m. UW Facilities is currently restoring cooling to UW Seattle buildings after Seattle City Light returned UW Seattle to its regular power level. Power has not yet been restored to the 12 UW Seattle buildings experiencing an outage.\n\nUPDATE at 2 p.m.: Additional repairs are needed to restore power to the 12 UW Seattle buildings experiencing an outage, so UW Seattle is again reducing its power usage usage at the request of Seattle City Light.\n\nCooling is currently being curtailed in most UW Seattle buildings. UW Facilities expects to restore cooling in the early evening.\n\nUPDATE at 10:20 a.m. Power outages are continuing at 12 UW Seattle buildings (see list).\n\nThe outage was due to an equipment failure in Seattle City Light's network off campus. Power will be restored after the repair is completed. SCL expects to restore power to UW Seattle buildings by late afternoon today.\n\nUW Facilities is in the process of restoring cooling to UW Seattle buildings, but students, faculty, staff and visitors should expect elevated interior temperatures possibly through tomorrow.\n\nUPDATE at 8 a.m. The power is out at these UW Seattle buildings:\n\n- Benjamin Hall Interdisciplinary Research Building\n\n- Publication Services\n\n- Northlake Building\n\n- SW Maintenance Building\n\n- Child Care Center (West Campus)\n\n- Brooklyn Trail Building\n\n- Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center\n\n- Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity Instructional Center\n\n- Ethnic Cultural Center Theater and Annex\n\n- Community Design Center\n\n- 3935 Brooklyn\n\n- Purchasing and Accounting Building\n\nORIGINAL POST: Due to a Seattle City Light reduction in power to UW Seattle, UW building electrical systems in West Campus/Portage Bay Crossing are down and all other building cooling systems are down as of 7 a.m. today. The cooling outage is expected to last until 11 a.m. but may continue longer.\n\nThe University encourages employees to work from home and remote instruction where possible. Some departments, programs or services may be unavailable.
