The phone number used was not the official Campus Safety number. The message instructed the student to move her vehicle because it was illegally parked. Her car was not illegally parked, and the student's name and vehicle location were identified by the caller / texter.\nThe student did not read the message until the following day. It is unknown whether the text was intended as a prank or if the sender was attempting to lure her to her vehicle late at night.\nPlease be reminded that Campus Safety will not contact you without identifying the officer by name. All official text messages will come from our verified Campus Safety number: (949) 244-0098. If you have experienced any similar incidents, or if you receive a suspicious text or call, please contact Campus Safety immediately.
