Crime Alert: Robbery Wednesday, May 8, 2024 This message includes information about a crime that was recently reported on or near the University of Iowa campus. The purpose of this email is to provide you with the information you need to stay safe and take any appropriate precautions. In the interest of campus safety, we want everyone to be aware that the University of Iowa Police Department is investigating a report of a robbery that occurred at 300 N. Capitol St., on Monday, May 6, at approximately 9:45 p.m. The victim reported she was working in her food truck when a man opened the door and told her to give him her water. The victim then told him to get out of the truck, and that she had pepper spray. The suspect then said he had a gun, grabbed the victim's plastic water bottle, and fled the scene. No weapons were displayed. This incident remains under investigation. If you have any information about this incident, please contact the University of Iowa Police Department at 319-335-5022, or text Campus Safety using the Rave Guardian app. Remember: - Walk with a group whenever possible, and be aware of your surroundings, especially late at night and in the early morning hours. - If you are being followed, go to a well-lit or crowded location and call 911. - Don't risk injury for material items, give them up immediately if you are threatened with physical harm. - You are not obligated to communicate with strangers; don't be concerned with appearing to be rude if you feel vulnerable. - If you observe a crime in progress, stay calm, find a safe location, and call the police immediately by dialing 911.
