How this policy works

When it activates
Timely warning for Clery Act crimes in CCRI geography that represent a serious or continuing threat. Emergency notifications for serious weather or non-Clery crime issues and immediate threats (examples: building fire, earthquake, gas leak, armed intruder) or events requiring campus closure.
Who decides
Judgment of CCRI PD in consultation with the Vice President of Administration and Finances for serious/continuing threat. Emergency notification system messages typically made by the Chief of Campus Police and/or the Vice President of Administration and Finance; executive leadership included if time permits. Content decided by Chief and/or VP of Administration and Finance.
Timeliness standard
Rave Alert for immediate notification; emergency system activated upon confirmation of immediate threat to health or safety. Notification systems tested biannually with full activation and prior community notice; selected hardware phones tested monthly.
Emergency notification vs. timely warning
ASR separates Timely Warnings (Clery crimes, serious/continuing threat) from Emergency Notifications (broader immediate threats including non-Clery weather/crime).
Testing cadence
All notification systems tested biannually including full activation with prior College community notification. Blue Light phones (Liston only), elevator phones, PA systems, and safe zone phones tested monthly. Rave training and annual tests of Rave and ALERTUS conducted periodically.
Scope & limits
Notifications may target selected campus segments (Warwick threat need not notify Lincoln; Newport gas leak may notify only Newport County Campus). Auto-enrollment in Rave if phone number supplied at MyCCRI enrollment.
