Reading the policy

Highland Community College, a multi-location Kansas community college, publishes emergency procedures and Campus Alerts & Notifications on its Safety & Security page. RAVE Alerts are linked for signup at getrave.com/login/highlandcc. For tornado/severe weather when a tornado is confirmed near Doniphan County, police or emergency preparedness activate storm warning sirens and college officials activate the campus emergency alert system, broadcasting across the campus speaker system and sending email and text for those signed up for RAVE alerts. Designated shelter areas are listed by building, and the speaker system and RAVE text system also send an all-clear when the dangerous storm has passed. The student handbook separately states that students may sign up for RAVE Alerts for campus closings, emergencies, or other announcements. Winter storm campus close decisions rest with the College President with media and switchboard notification. Public information about campus disasters is limited to designated administrators (VP Student Affairs, Marketing Director, President or designee).
