Reading the policy

Isothermal Community College, a North Carolina Community College System institution, publishes Timely Warning and Emergency Notification procedures in its Campus Safety and Security Report for 2024 (published 2025). Timely warnings for ongoing or continuing threats are judged by the college President or designee; as soon as pertinent information is available, the Director of Marketing and Community Relations notifies the campus community via email, text, Moodle, desktop and campus phone notifications, website, flyers, and/or local media. Emergency notifications activate without delay for immediate threats or significant operational disruption (active shooter, natural disaster, weather, fire, gas leak, etc.), with confirmation involving the President, designated staff, Campus Resource Officers, and/or Rutherford County Communications Center. Activation may use outdoor warning (Rutherford main campus), fire alarms, ICC Alert text and email, phone intercom, desktop notifications, website, Facebook, and local media. The College and Rutherford County Communications Center conduct an announced monthly test of outdoor warning, ICC Alert, and college phone and desktop systems—an unusually frequent fixed test cadence.
