Should an event or situation arise, either on or off campus, that STC believes warrants a timely warning to STC employees, students, and other members of the campus community, STC will use the Everbridge Platform for its STC Alert System to reach the campus community. Employees and students will receive a phone call, text (if a cell phone number is disclosed), and an email alerting them of the situation.

STC has created multiple pre-recorded templates within our IT department to send out to all students and employees in the event of an emergency. The templates can easily be modified to reflect whatever the situation might be that warrants a campus-wide notification. The following are the templates that have been created: • Active Shooter (Ed Wood, Health Center, Tech Center, Mickelson, Scarbrough, and HUB buildings)

STC has 24 silent panic buttons throughout all the buildings on the main campus in the event of an immediate threat where an employee is in fear of their safety, the employee can push the panic button discreetly which Midwest Alarm monitors and will contact the Sioux Falls Police Department as well as STC's security officers.

Notification of an emergency will be made by STC President or their designee and/or Administration. STC annually tests and practice evacuations, fire drills, severe weather drills, and the STC Emergency Alert System at the main campus.

When it activates: Timely warning on a case-by-case basis when a Clery or non-Clery crime reported to Campus Security, a CSA, or law enforcement poses a serious or continuing threat to students, employees, or campus property, considering risk of compromising law enforcement. Emergency response/evacuation notification when STC determines emergency response or evacuation is necessary.
Who decides: Timely Warning issuers: President of STC; VP of Academic Affairs; VP of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs; VP of Finance; Vice President of Technology and Operations; Compliance Officer/Title IX Coordinator; Campus Security. Emergency notification: STC President or their designee and/or Administration. BERT members may deliver verbal notification in person or by phone.
Timeliness standard: Timely warnings unless issuing could compromise investigation. Emergency procedures evaluated at least once every calendar year with other emergency agencies. STC annually tests evacuations, fire drills, severe weather drills, and the STC Emergency Alert System at the main campus.
