How this policy works
- When it activates
- Confirmation of an emergency or dangerous situation that involves an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or employees. Timely warnings for Clery Act crimes in Clery geography that are a serious or continuing threat; that section is summarized and not fully quoted.
- Who decides
- After learning an incident occurred, the Chief of Police and Safety Services or other College designee determines if it merits a timely warning. Campus Police and Safety, the Office of the Superintendent-President, or another designee attempt to verify a critical incident.
- Timeliness standard
- Immediate notification upon confirmation. A warning is issued as soon as pertinent information is available. Rave Alerts can be used to send emergency messages via email and text within minutes of an incident; that last sentence is in the ASR near the enrollment paragraph.
- Emergency notification vs. timely warning
- The ASR keeps Timely Warning Policy distinct from Emergency Notification to the College Community / Rave Alert.
- Scope & limits
- Students are auto-enrolled for email and may opt out. Faculty and staff are encouraged to enroll. Cellphone numbers are optional for text.
